The Nature Conservancy
STRATEGIC DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
Workplace strategy for a global non-profit that is anti-building
MKThink developed a Strategic Master Plan to guide The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in managing its California operations more environmentally conscious and cost-effectively. An in-depth assessment of statewide facilities informed a hub-and-spoke model designed to consolidate offices and better distribute resources. The model was implemented in four regional offices and three hubs to realize $800,000 in OpEx savings and avoid $5 million in costs. An enhanced hub, the San Francisco headquarters showcases the strategy with an open office layout of shared resources that reduce square footage by 33%, avoid $2.95 million in lease expenses over ten years, and enable the chapter to maintain its location. The Strategic Master Plan aligns with TNC’s commitment to conservation—natural, material, and financial.
