Our partners at Trust for Public Land just released MKThink's cost benefit study which shows that investments in Green Schoolyards can yield monetary benefits of up to 4X the initial costs by increasing school attendance and retention and by saving on heating and cooling costs. These are worthy investments well within reach of most schools and should be priorities of every facility master plan and capital program.
This graph shows the ‘Cumulative Net Cost’ over a twenty-year period, i.e. the annualized dollar value that the initial investment yields over the 20-year life of the investment. Cumulative Net Cost equals the cash flow of a project over time compared to the initial investment
Here are scenes from the project sites.
