Advancing Energy Efficiency to Protect Lives and Enhance Operations
REACHE: Innovating Energy Efficiency for Military Safety
ABSTRACT
The Department of Defense (DOD) is committed to reducing energy consumption on military bases, not only to cut costs but to protect lives, as fuel deliveries in conflict zones have led to tragic losses. To address this, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) partnered with MKThink, launching the REACHE program—an effort to develop energy-efficient solutions that respect both cultural and environmental factors. Through years of research and real-world testing, REACHE introduced technologies that reduce fuel dependence, directly safeguarding soldiers while enhancing mission effectiveness. The program’s work also revealed the deeper connections between our built environments, natural surroundings, and human well-being. This groundbreaking effort culminated in the creation of The MARBLE, a cutting-edge system that uses AI to ensure safer, smarter, and more sustainable operations for the future.
